Spousal, Partner, and Children Sponsorship
Overview
Canadian citizens and permanent residents can sponsor their spouse, partner, or dependent children to become permanent residents of Canada.
Spousal & Partner Sponsorship
Who you can sponsor:
- Spouse: You are legally married.
- Common-law partner: You have lived together for at least 12 continuous months in a marital relationship.
- Conjugal partner: You have been in a committed relationship for at least 1 year but could not live together or marry due to legal/immigration reasons.
Requirements:
- Sponsor must be 18+ and a Canadian citizen or PR.
- Must prove the relationship is genuine.
- Sponsor must sign an undertaking to provide financial support for basic needs for 3 years.
Dependent Child Sponsorship
Eligibility:
- Children must be under 22 years old.
- They must not have a spouse or common-law partner.
- Children 22 or older can be sponsored if they have depended on their parents for financial support since before age 22 and cannot support themselves due to a physical or mental condition.
Undertaking:
10 years or until age 25, whichever comes first.
